Hello beauty! If you love the idea of making your very own oil concoctions for skin but don't have a clue with where to start, you've come to the right place! Before you start getting complex with your blends, let's first look at the properties in each oil and how they interact with different skin types.


What is the comedogenic scale and why is it important?

The comedogenic scale rates oils on their likelihood of clogging pores. Non-comedogenic means it will not clog pores. It's imperative to use this scale when getting to know your carrier oils because the last thing you want is to end up clogging your pores further, am I right? The lower the number the less chance it will cause pore congestion. However, some oils have cleansing properties that can cause purging, expelling toxins and dirt from deep within the pores that may cause a breakout. Don't mistake this reaction for it clogging your pores, it's actually cleaning them! However, if breakouts persist (rare), discontinue use or visit your water intake and dietary habits.


How can oils be used to balance oil your skin?

Each oil has a different fatty acid composition that has the ability to inhibit or prohibit oil production and supplements the skin with omegas. For example, Oleic rich oils are usually used in dry & aging skin to enrich the epidermis by providing the hydration it lacks. High Linoleic oils are often used in oily skin types to suppress the overactive glands by tricking them into thinking they are already producing enough oil so it inhibits extra oil production.

Properties: High in Linoleic Acid - suppressing overactive sebaceous (oil) glands

Skin type: Suitable for all skin types.

Key elements: High in antioxidants, this oil aids in fighting free radical damage, acne, and aging. It's considered a dry oil, meaning it is absorbed quickly.
